Gencon 2012: Cosplay Abuse

Tweet There are two different forms of cosplay abuse. Abuse of the term, the ideal, and the activity is the one that I think is a bit more personal to me. The second is abuse of the people themselves. I don’t really mean physically, though that definitely does enter into it, I mean more almost emotional abuse. Let me first talk about the former kind of abuse. This is something I feel a real need to talk about. Especially after some recent comments on my previous article. I’m going to start off by saying that I am a crafty person, and I became a crafty person because I wanted to make decent garb for the local renaissance faire. My first year at the local faire … Read entire article »

GenCon 2012 Interview: Paizo Publishing

Tweet The first interview I was able to negotiate at GenCon this year was with a representative for Paizo Publishing. Being the most popular role playing game there is to find at the moment I felt it was a good place to start. I asked Sean K. Reynolds for a few minutes of his time and we talked. Just as a little background, Sean has worked for TSR, Wizards of the Coast, Black Isle Studios, Upper Deck, and now o course Paizo Publishing. He has done a little bit of just about everything in the gaming industry from the video game side, to card games, and of course rpg design. He has his own personal site at www.seankreynolds.com and if you wish to learn more you … Read entire article »

GenCon 2012: First Impressions

Tweet I went to GenCon for the first time last year. It was an interesting, but amazing experience. This year I had the opportunity to attend the con in a completely different sort of role, the role of roving reporter. I was lucky enough to gain a press pass and to then use that pass to interview many people in the gaming industry. Ranging from actual developers like Shane Hensley(Pinnacle Entertainment Group/Savage Worlds), to podcasters like Jefferson Jay Thacker(Know Direction) and Michael Azzolino(Chronicles: The Pathfinder Podcast), and just regular old every day gamers like Josh Shrader(Dayton, OH). Doing this gave me a completely different experience than I had last year, and it also gave me some almost unique insight into the GenCon experience. I will write … Read entire article »

Making the most of one day at GenCon.

Tweet Not long ago I talked to Stu Venable about representing DoucheyDM.com at GenCon in an official capacity. He gave me the go ahead to use the blog as a way to garner a press pass. Well wouldn’t you know it, it worked! So there I was with a press badge and a mission. I was going to my first ever full weekend of GenCon, and with press credentials even! The next several weeks were a rollercoaster. I had a ride, then I didn’t have a ride, then I did again. I didn’t have anywhere to stay, then I did, then I didn’t, etc. Finally after much thought and deliberation, I decided that going for a full four days would not be a … Read entire article »

Guido on Gaming: My take on organized play.

Tweet I have always been one to want a lot out of gaming. I love to roleplay. One of my favorite parts about the whole thing is getting to pretend to be someone else for a while and forget about my own life and its problems for a few hours. For the last seven or so years I have been stuck behind the GM screen. Now, don’t get me wrong I enjoy running games, I really do. It just doesn’t give me the same feeling as playing does though. I wanted a chance to play again, but I couldn’t find a game that could suit my needs. Either I couldn’t find another game to join, or they were playing … Read entire article »
